The project

Project overview

Civcon were appointed by the Public Transport Authority to upgrade the Oats Street Station's bus interchange. With the existing bus facilities at capacity, the project involved extending the interchange north to increase the number of bus stands and layover bays. The upgrade has allowed the interchange to accommodate more services including a new bus route from Perth Airport Terminal 1 to Oats Street Station once the Forrestfield-Airport Link becomes operational in late 2021. The extension will also allow the interchange to accommodate articulated buses when necessary.

Scope of works

Scope of works

  • Extension of existing interchange to accommodate 19m articulated bus vehicle movements
  • Upgrade the existing active bus stand to a minimum path width of 2.5m
  • Supply and install new bus shelters
  • Reconstruct existing pavement and construction of new pavement
  • Provide new footpaths, kerbing and pram ramps with DDA compliant access
  • Removal of 10 x Transperth parking bays to accommodate the extension of the interchange
  • Removal of verge parking and associated line marking on Bank Street
  • Removal of existing soak wells and provision of new drainage soak wells and modifications
  • Minor landscaping works comprising the spreading of mulch across unpaved areas
  • Removal of a number of trees impacted by the proposed design and grubbing of their roots
  • Relocation and provision of traffic facilities comprising signage and line marking
  • Relocation of existing ticket machines, PTA electronic bus driver display signs
  • Protection and relocation of existing services; and
  • Relocation of existing PTA light poles and luminaires
