Project overview

Civcon was appointed as head contractor for Stage 1 of Phase 2 of the Rottnest Island Gateway Project. The project aimed to enhance visitor experience and ensure the long-term sustainability of Rottnest Island (Wadjemup). The works were in the Settlement Mall, Heritage Common, and surrounding areas.

Scope of works

Scope of works

  • Location and investigation of existing services
  • Demolition of existing pavement, walling, playground, fencing and furniture
  • Tree protection, site preparation, detailed earthworks and fine grading
  • Hard and soft landscaping works
  • Pavements, stairs and handrail including base course and sub grade preparation
  • Construction of limestone walls
  • Supply and installation of new shelters, furniture, rock work and fencing
  • Supply and installation of all turf, tree planting, shrub planting and mulching
  • Supply and installation of all drainage works
  • Supply and installation of all electrical works including distribution boards, power pillars and all lighting including integration with shelters, decking and other items as required
  • Supply and installation of irrigation system to suit upgrades, including investigation of water source and current irrigation system
  • Management for the protection of all retained heritage fabric, including buildings, trees, walling and the ground
  • Pedestrian management for the movement and protection of visitors to all tenancies during construction
